Kids' Reading Room
By Laura Maguire
The Kids' Reading Room is a new outreach initiative starting January 30th. It consists of First Baptist volunteers reading weekly with local kids in Grades 1 to 6.
We had a great starting response from families in our community about the Kids' Reading Room!
The volunteers are ready, registration and website ready, the room is ready, and now kids are ready for us to help them build their confidence in the all-important life skill, reading.
Starting January 30th for six Tuesday evenings, 6 adult volunteers will be paired with children to listen to them read aloud for 30 minutes. There is a reading chart assessment to help volunteers to know what level to start at. Books are printed ahead of time using a website license.
After March Break, we will hold another six week session, then decide about a possible third session.
If the need continues to grow, we will add another night during the week. But that means more listening volunteers will be needed!
So let Laura Maguire know if you are at all interested. Please keep praying for the program and the families that come through the doors for help, and we will see what God has in store for us!
