As a Christian church, we exist to honour God by helping local people worship God, grow spiritually, serve others, and reach their communities and the world with the message and love of Jesus Christ.

Youth Group Updates

By Rick & Carolyn Bridge

January 10th

We met at the Bridges' and enjoyed games of Charades and headbands using Christmas character themes, both Christian and secular. We had a lot of fun.

Eva Dixon popped in for a few minutes to talk to us about the 5km walk for the “Coldest Night of the Year” fundraiser for the youth centre.

We then went to separate places while Carolyn gave instructions on what to draw on your paper. Although everyone received the same instructions and although drawings were similar, they were definitely different. This exercise helped us to understand that the Bible is a big book written over many years by many authors and interpretation can depend on the person, what the person may be going through at that time, their previous knowledge of the Bible, and also what God may be saying to their heart at that particular moment.

We enjoyed snacks and took turns reading verses that reflected our chart on “seven rules of life”. We shared and prayed together in a circle ending with a card signed by all to give to Liz Harvey.

Reading Bible verses reflecting the “seven rules of life”

January 24th

The youth met at Shirley Cookson's house for our get-together.

We opened with a fun game of “would you rather” which always develops into great discussion.

We then had the pleasure of hearing Shirley's story from her youth to present day, including key moments in her life when Jesus was especially close to her. We also learned historical facts such as how her road became named the Cookson Road.

We had delicious cookies and apple cider from Shirley! We surprised her with a birthday cake and sang to her knowing she was a January baby. Not knowing her age we placed 7 candles on the cake. (One for each decade?)

Carolyn told the Godly Play story of The Good Shepherd, followed by wondering questions and discussion. Shirley closed in prayer. It was a pleasure spending time together and learning about one another and God's word. We thanked her for having us in her home and she said how much she enjoyed having us.

Happy Birthday, Shirley!
