As a Christian church, we exist to honour God by helping local people worship God, grow spiritually, serve others, and reach their communities and the world with the message and love of Jesus Christ.

Church Boards

No one person or entity is responsbile for the management and operation of First Baptist Church. The following boards and their respective members (who typically serve for three year terms) jointly share the responsbilities of running our organization. These highly motivated volunteer leaders ensure that First Baptist will continue to function long into the future.

Board of Deacons

The Deacons are the spiritual leaders of the church family. They provide guidance and direction for all of the church's ministry and outreach programs. They are also responsible for hiring the minister, appointing representatives to larger denominational groups, and otherwise ensuring that the church continues in its Baptist ways. A committee of the Deacons also oversees Christian education programs for all ages. (Formerly this was the responsibility of a seperate Board of Christian Education.)

Board of Managers

The Board of Managers bears the responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of the church, its finances, and its staff. First Baptist is fortunate to have a large building with sanctuary, classrooms, office space, and a gymnasium. The Managers (through both the staff custodian and volunteer help) make sure these facilities are clean, heated, and otherwise properly maintained. The board, along with the church treasurer, also makes sure that the bills get paid and that donations are used appropriately.

Trustees

While the Managers deal with the day-to-day operations of the church, the three Trustees look after its long-term interests. From time to time over the years, certain individuals have bequeathed money to the church. It is the Trustees who manage these funds, keeping in mind the instructions of the donors and the current needs of the church.

Board of Liason

The Board of Liaison oversees and coordinates the activities of the other boards. It is comprised of the chairs of each of the other boads, the minisiter, and the Chair of the Board of Liaison who is elected by the members of the congregation.
