As a Christian church, we exist to honour God by helping local people worship God, grow spiritually, serve others, and reach their communities and the world with the message and love of Jesus Christ.
In this photo from August 31, 1921 we can see Mrs. Helena Palmerton placing a copper cylinder containing memorabilia into the cornerstone. Among other things that included: the latest issue of the Canadian Baptist, a copy of the church's 1920 annual report including a list of members' names, the 1920 Baptist Year Book from the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec, and a photograph of the building committee members (H. R. Crabb, chairman; Rev. H. C. Newcombe; Newton Challen; F. W. Burgess; Ira Miller; Joseph H. Bowden; T. Vail; C. J. Kayser). Also included were some documents removed from the old cornerstone of 1869 including: copies of the Norfolk Reformer and British-Canadian from September 1869, and minutes of the convention of the “Grand River Association South”. The gentleman seated near the center of the photo looking directly into camera is believed to be Mr. Newton Challen. He was a long-time member of the congregation and was presented a silver trowel with which to apply mortar to the cornerstone on this day.
