Youth Group Adventures
By Rick & Carolyn Bridge
Sunday, January 4th
We met in the church parlour. Opened up our usual question “What is the most challenging thing and most grateful thing since we were last together?” We broke into teams of 3 to do a word scramble challenge. Then read from our book study “Love Wins”, followed by discussion on how life's distractions get in the way of our time with God. We also talked about how God wants us in his army in this age and the next.
Then we had loads of fun with “Minute to Win It” games with Tiffany Forde. The fun included: “yes, no” game, unravel the streamers, cup stacking, word connection, match 4 words that go with the right category, scoop the cotton balls, and sequence.
Sunday, January 11th
We met at the Bridges'. We opened with the new Godly Play story diving deeper in the Lord's Prayer: the Our Father. Then more of our study book “Love Wins”. Some fun group team building games like “command opposite”, snacks, sharing, and finalizing interest in ourfuture outings.
- A youth Christian concert on February 7th
- The Coldest Night of the Year walk on February 28th with our team leader Eva
- Ascent, the new CBOQ overnight fun and faith building event at Circle Square ranch in Brantford (the old Avalanche/Blizzard)
Sunday, January 18th
We gathered at Russ Robertson's home. We opened with Bible riddles and a song called “Survivors” by Jeremy Camp. The song states that living with Jesus means some things have to die (pride, ego, etc.). We read from our study book “Love Wins” and talked about Hell and the meanings of the word.We watched a short video of Beth Bridge's 3 yr old Caleb making a craft for his recently deceased Gramma in California and telling his mom he was going to give it to Grampa to mail to Jesus in Heaven . Then we talked about the beauty in that and read verses on how we are to be like children to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
We made a yarn cross bringing our prayers to Jesus and laying them at his feet. To us the finished product may seem and look chaotic but to Jesus it's a beautiful sight.
We enjoyed Q&A with Russ about his 95 years of life. He shared many stories about his childhood on the farm, his life as a truck driver, his 75 years with his wife Lil, his 7 younger siblings and his first car which was a Ford Model A. His favourite candy is chocolate and favourite childhood game was crokinole, which he still owns today.
His wisdom, life experiences, and the changes he has seen in the world were very enlightening for all. Thank you Russ for your time and willingness to share. You are an inspiration. His sister-in-law, Shirley, shared some old things from the past for us to guess their use, and gave us homemade cookies and hot apple cider!
