From Our Summer Student
By Jude Guthrie
In July and August I had a great time being the summer student for First Baptist Church, Simcoe. I worked with Janet Dickson to prepare, run, and clean up VBS. I had to make files and organize data, such as the list of snack donations. I had to pick up, arrange, and repair decorations. I also constructed a wooden bridge, and a leaf blower-powered launcher. We used all this to decorate the church with the help of volunteers.
During VBS week, I opened all the stations each morning and locked up once the day was over. I took photos of different groups to put in Bible story spotlight video at the end of each day. I also assisted with making the snack each day and organized colouring and activity sheets.
After the VBS week was over we had to clean up, which was surprisingly quick, thanks to all the volunteers! Then I started my second project of the summer, which was assisting John Wallace and John-Paul Stewart to organize the history room. I learned lots about the history of the church, including sorting all the annual reports from 1950 to present day.
Overall it was a great job with lots of valuable experience. I enjoyed working with Janet, John, and J-P. I would do it again and recommend it to anyone else who is interested.
